| As Executive Secretary to the President's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, Carvajal had occasion to work with Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Head of the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation. Because of their sister Rosemary, who was mentally retarded, the Kennedys had always had a great interest in programs to assist the handicapped. Joe and Eunice sometimes worked together at Timberlawn, the Shriver estate near Rockville, Maryland (to save Eunice a trip into town.) |
