Lena Horne
Singer Lena Horne with publicist Joe Carvajal, outside the District
Building, following a Key to the City ceremony in 1962.  The two
met again, a year later, when Lena Horne gave her one-word
speech at the Washington Monument at the start of the famous
1963 civil rights "March On Washington."  After being introduced,
she went to the microphone on the Monument's Sylvan
Amphitheatre stage and shouted, "Freedom!"
